Kocatepe, the Great Offensive which Atatürk started on August 26, 1922, is located on Kocatepe at an altitude of 1,874. Asphalt road is closed in winter due to the density of snow. Kocatepe; It was the place where the Great Offensive, which ensured the liberation of Anatolia and the Turkish Nation, was started on 26 August 1922 by Commander-in-Chief Mustafa Kemal. It is a hill dominating Afyonkarahisar and Sinanpaşa plains due to its geographical structure. Commander-in-Chief Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and his friends came to Kocatepe on the evening of 25 August 1922 and launched the Great Offensive on the morning of 26 August. He led the first phase of the Great Offensive from the headquarters established there and the trench that is still present. The Commander-in-Chief left Kocatepe at noon on 27 August 1922. One of the cornerstones of the National Struggle, Kocatepe was built in 1953 by the Ministry of Defense as a monument made of cut stone and a marble inscription with flower relief was placed on it. In 1993, the Atatürk Monument and landscaping were made by the Ministry of Culture and opened to visitors. Kocatepe Monument, weighing 4 tons, is made of bronze and has a height of 7.5 meters with its base. Victory Week celebrations in Afyonkarahisar between 26-30 August each year, starting with the first ceremony held in Kocatepe on 26 August, lasts 5 days.
